Projects

As mentioned before, I do lots and lots of different things. But here are some of the activities I engage in on a regular basis:

Primarily, I am a translator and interpreter. This accounts for most of my professional activity. For over 5 years of both staff and freelance work, my client and project portfolio has grown fairly large, with experience in such fields as law, finance, IT and security among others.

In my free time, I write poetry and practice photography. These are not professional activities by any means, although I do commercial writing projects as well. You can see some of my photo work here (you would need to have a VKontakte account to view) and here (open for everyone).

I also make and manage websites. I don’t call myself a professional web-designer, and my sites tend to follow the KISS principle. Here are some of these sites:

  • NovaMova – a linguistic news site and community. Dedicated to Ukrainian and foreign languages.
  • Obviously, this site.
  • And some sites occasionally made for my friends.

I also casually contribute to Ukrainian and English Wikipedias.

Last but not the least, I love science. My key interests include, but are not limited to: language and translation studies, psycholinguistics and language acquisition, applied and computer linguistics, etc.  As for achievements in this field, I have several publications in various journals, including one peer-reviewed publication on Ukrainian transcription of Japanese proper names.
